How long after a repair before ice comes back?
Plan on several hours. The mold has to chill, fill, freeze, and harvest before the bin starts filling again. Most units need two or three full cycles before production looks normal, so we ask you to check again the next morning.
Is it worth repairing an ice maker or should I buy a whole new fridge?
Depends on what failed. A valve, thermistor, or module swap is a contained job on an otherwise healthy refrigerator. If the sealed system is also struggling and the unit is well past its years, we'll say so plainly and let you decide.
Why does my ice smell bad in a Portland winter?
Ice absorbs odors, and cubes that sit unused for weeks pick up whatever's in the freezer. Dump the bin, replace the filter if it's due, and keep strong foods covered. If the smell returns fast, the water line may need attention.
Can you fix the dispenser if it jams but the maker works?
