The dryer symptoms we hear most
- "Clothes come out warm but still damp" Restricted venting or a weak heat source, often a lint-packed duct or an element that has partly failed.
- "It runs, but there's zero heat" Blown thermal fuse, open heating element, or a gas valve coil that won't ignite.
- "Something's thumping every time the drum turns" Worn drum rollers, a flat spot on the idler pulley, or something foreign caught in the blower.
- "Motor hums and the drum sits still" Snapped or slipped belt, seized roller, or a motor with a failed start winding.
- "Laundry room smells scorched after a load" Lint piled up near the heater housing, or a cycling thermostat that's overheating. Stop using it and call.
Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Pull the dryer out and check that the flex duct isn't crushed flat behind it.
- 2Clear the lint screen and hold it under running water. If water beads on top, scrub it with soap.
- 3If the drum still spins but makes no heat, one leg of the breaker has likely tripped, which kills half the outlet.
- 4Look outside at the vent hood while the dryer runs and see whether the flap opens with a strong push of air.

Is a no-heat dryer worth repairing?
Usually, yes. No-heat faults are often a fuse, element, or thermostat, and those are contained parts. We check the vent first, since blockage is what kills fuses. Call us and we'll talk through the age and condition of your machine.
Why do my clothes take two cycles now?
Almost always airflow. Lint builds in the duct, the moist air can't leave, and the dryer keeps tumbling wet laundry. A long run through a crawlspace collects more of it. We measure airflow and clear or reroute whatever is choking it.
Do you work on gas dryers as well as electric?
We do both. Gas units add igniters, flame sensors, and valve coils to the list of suspects. Electric units lean on elements and high-limit thermostats. Tell us which you have when you call so we arrive stocked.
Can a squeal mean the dryer is about to quit?
Often it means a roller or idler pulley is wearing through. Left alone, the belt can shred and the drum stops. Squeals are easy to chase early and messy to chase late, so mention it right away.
Should the vent get cleaned during a repair?
We check it every time, because almost every heat and drying complaint traces back there. If it's packed, clearing it protects the new part you just paid for and cuts down the fire risk in the wall.
My dryer shuts off mid-cycle. What causes that?
Overheating trips a safety thermostat, then the unit cools and restarts. Blocked venting is the usual reason. A failing motor with a hot overload switch acts the same way, so we test both before replacing anything.
