Cooktop Repair — Book a Visit Today

Cooktops fail in small ways first. A burner that clicks and clicks before lighting. An induction zone that drops out mid-simmer. A glass surface with one dead spot and four working ones. Behind those symptoms sit the usual suspects: worn spark igniters, clogged burner ports, cracked infinite switches, failed radiant elements, tired induction boards, and wiring that has gone brittle under years of heat. When we come out, we pull power, lift the top, and test the parts in the order that actually tells us something. Then we explain what we found in plain words before anything gets replaced. Gas, electric coil, radiant glass, or induction, we work on all major brands as an independent shop. Call us and describe what you're seeing.

Cooktop Repair — residential cooktop being serviced

The cooktop symptoms we hear most

  • It clicks forever but won't light Igniter, spark module, or moisture in the burner head
  • One burner is stone dead, the rest are fine Failed surface element, broken switch, or a loose terminal connection
  • The flame is orange and lazy Blocked burner ports, wrong orifice, or a gas-air mixture problem
  • My induction zone shuts off on its own Overheating control board, blocked cooling fan, or pan-detection fault
  • Low setting boils, high setting barely warms Infinite switch cycling out of range or a shorted element

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Flip the cooktop breaker off and back on once, since some control boards latch after a power blip.
  • 2Look for a cracked or chipped spot in glass tops, and stop using that zone if you find one.
  • 3With the gas off and burners cool, lift each burner cap and check the slots for spilled food or crust.
  • 4Try a different pan on an induction zone, because thin or aluminum pans often won't be detected at all.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Phone us or fill out the form. Describe the noise, the puddle, the burning smell. Brand and rough age help too. We ask a few questions so the right parts ride along in the van.

  2. Step 2

    We come look

A technician arrives in the window we set, pulls the unit out, and tests it. Tight basement stairs and low bungalow ceilings are normal to us. You hear what's wrong before anything is replaced.

  3. Step 3

    You decide, we repair

We explain the fix and what it involves, then wait for your go-ahead. Most common parts are on the truck. If one has to be ordered, we tell you the plan and follow up.

Cooktop Repair — quick answers

Can a cracked glass cooktop be repaired?

Cracks in ceramic glass can't be patched safely. The surface carries heat and shields live wiring underneath. We replace the glass panel when a replacement is available for your model, and we'll tell you honestly if it isn't.

Why does my gas burner smell after we cook?

A faint odor while burning is often food residue or a slightly rich flame. A gas smell when everything is off is different. Shut the supply valve, open windows, skip the appliance, and call us.

Do you work on downdraft cooktops?

Yes. Downdraft units add a blower, a damper, and extra wiring to the mix, so we check fan motors and vent paths along with the burners or elements. Tell us the model when you call so we arrive prepared.

How long does a typical cooktop repair take?

Most visits run one appointment. Testing is quick once the top is off. If a control board, element, or glass panel has to be ordered, we set a return visit and get your working burners usable in the meantime when it's safe.

Is it worth fixing an older cooktop?

Often, yes. Igniters, switches, and elements are common parts and swap out cleanly. When a unit needs several major components at once, or parts are discontinued, we say so and leave the decision with you.

What should I have ready before you arrive?

The brand and model number, usually on a label under the cooktop or in your paperwork. Clear the counter around the unit. If it's gas, know where your shutoff valve is. Anything else, ask us.

Why homeowners call us

  • Damp-house know-howPortland laundry rooms grow mildew. Basements stay wet. We know how moisture ruins dryer vents, rusts washer parts and shorts out control boards, so we check the surroundings, not just the machine, before calling a repair done.
  • Unhurried visitsRushed diagnostics miss things. We take the extra minutes to pull the panel, look behind the drum and test the drain line. Then we tell you plainly what failed and whether the repair makes sense for that appliance.
  • Every major brandWe are an independent shop, so we work on the whole laundry room and kitchen: washers, dryers, refrigerators, ranges, ovens, dishwashers, freezers and disposals. Older units and newer digital models both get the same careful look.
  • Wide service reachHomeowners across five Western states reach us the same way. City bungalow, suburban split-level or a house down a gravel road, we schedule a visit and show up with tools and common parts ready.
  • All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
  • Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
